ChangAn Inaugurates Rayong Plant, Emphasizing Sustainable Manufacturing, Efficiency, Cost, and Quality

In addition to opening this factory, ChangAn has achieved the production of 28.59 million vehicles, marking a significant step in its global expansion efforts.

Rayong, Thailand, (BERITA HARIAN ONLINE/PRNewswire) – ChangAn Automobile (“ChangAn” or “the Company”), a pioneer in smart and low-carbon mobility technology, has inaugurated its first new energy vehicle (NEV) plant in the international market, located in Rayong, Thailand. This facility integrates a sustainable, low-carbon, and flexible manufacturing system along with smart digital systems that prioritize efficiency, cost, and quality. The opening of this plant represents a crucial development in ChangAn’s global manufacturing strategy, enhancing Thailand’s automotive industry with cutting-edge intelligent manufacturing capabilities.

The inauguration of ChangAn’s Rayong plant marks the latest phase in the “Vast Ocean Plan,” transitioning from product exportation to global industrialization. By establishing this facility, ChangAn demonstrates its potential for global expansion encompassing product innovation, intelligent manufacturing systems, brand development, and green digital innovation.

As a key production hub, the Rayong plant features five intelligent production lines, including welding, painting, general assembly, engine, and battery lines, with automation reaching 90% in quality control processes, the highest in Thailand’s automotive industry. The plant operates energy-efficiently and environmentally friendly, aligning with green business development goals. A 14 MW solar power system supplies 45% of the plant’s electricity needs. Utilizing water management towers with recirculation methods, building grilles, natural lighting, and rainwater recycling, the plant reduces energy use for lighting and ventilation, improves water efficiency, and saves energy costs by approximately 5%.

ChangAn has implemented an innovative and flexible production system to reduce production costs and create high-value vehicles. The welding line uses 39 robots and advanced methods for connecting vehicle materials, including FDS, EPS, and SPR, resulting in stronger material joints compared to conventional methods. The painting line employs 29 robots and advanced spraying techniques, extending the paint’s lifespan to 15 years and reducing emissions by 40%. Additionally, the assembly line consists of 140 workstations, 18 of which are automated and semi-automated. Technologies such as automatic sealing and AGV vehicles support ChangAn in producing multiple models and powertrains. The powertrain assembly line also manufactures engines and batteries, including highly accurate engine tile-matching and visual guidance for 22 battery processes. A total of 45 AGVs facilitate a flexible and responsive transportation and manufacturing system.

As a digital plant, ChangAn fully leverages a digital ecosystem with microservice architecture to ensure all operations are conducted online. The entire production process is scheduled in real-time, improving supply chain coordination and shortening product delivery cycles from 21 days to 15 days. The ChangAn Quality Operating System (CAQOS) maintains quality management for supplier parts, vehicle production, and marketing services. Throughout production activities, 77 surveillance cameras and 62 checklists are used by ChangAn to inspect 71 product quality points, ensuring the quality of components, production, and market service.

ChangAn will continue to localize 80% of production activities at the Rayong Plant, creating 30,000 jobs, supporting low-carbon business growth, and developing human resources to support Thailand’s green transition. As a production hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, ChangAn aims for global sales of new energy vehicles to exceed five million units, targeting three million units by 2030. Over the next three years, ChangAn will launch 12 new energy models and expand AI features. The new parts center in Rayong will also support the right-hand drive car market with 24-hour product delivery services.

“After more than 2,000 employees and partners worldwide worked for 556 days, we have built an efficient, modern, and intelligent plant,” said Shen Xinghua, Managing Director, ChangAn Automobile Southeast Asia Business Unit. “We have long-term goals. By working together, we will create a cleaner, smarter, and stronger automotive industry future — From Thailand, For Thailand, and For the World.”
